Surely does, but everyone doesnt have the same system. Shinjini is ill. It is a medical condition that has been made so clear by the doctors. It is just sad that she is only 16 and has to face so much of pressure

And who laid down the rules of rebuke,humilation and ridicule during the reality shows? If the ’subjects’ are being dealt with for assesment and judgement, how come the reprimand from the slefsame judges is warranted which subjects the poor and hapless victim to so much of embarrasament in public? The performers try and give out their best and if at all in a reality show some ’expert’could make them improve their performance then it makes sense. Otherwsie the whole excercise is senseless.

I fully agree with Debolina Sengupta.Reality shows should not attack and intimidate the performers in front of a camera, audience and so called judges.They perform seeking recognition and improvement to do better and excel. Their intention can never be doubted. If they are ill-treated on camera, in full view of the public, it may amount to ’bringing them low not only in their in own esteem (as happened in the case of Shinjini under reference) but also in a way defaming them if ’injury in their reputation is reported’. The legal sanctions in this regard are available not only in libel but also in the Penal sections of the statute. If ’reality bites’ then surely it ’hurts’ and ’defames’. There is a very thin line of distinction between ridicule, rebuke,reprimand and rolling one down. The action on the part of the ’offender’ is tortuous at the instance of the victim. Very many Child Rights Activists have come forward and their voices should be heard. I am aslo reminded of a scene from a Hindi Movie Bandit Queen when a only one year girl child is shown crying like hell seeing the dacoits and having been left alone obviously for a shoot. What kind of trauma the innocent child would have suffered should be anybody’s guess.

The Channels ”Conditions should not apply” here but the law of the land and snsibilities of the people should be taken into account.

But dont you think real life gives you more rejections than reality shows. These youngsters atleast have a platform to showcase their talents, earlier talented youngsters had to go through so much more and so much rejection even before coming into the spotlight. Examples: Aishwarya, Shahrukh, Sonu Nigam- they all started early and faced a lot of failures before reaching where they are today

Why do creative heads think being rude and insulting will make TRPs go up?

Maybe they picked up the trend from west. This rudeness and extreme emotions has negative impact on viewers too.

People will do anything to increase show ratings especially public humiliation and embarrassement which seems to be the more popular thing to do. They dont care about people’s feelings just ratings. There should be some guidelines for these shows to follow to discourage this behavior.

I would also like to add that I wouldnt go so far as to say that the reality show is solely responsible for her condition. She may have been experiencing some issues prior to what happened on the show. The show just pushed her off the edge of a cliff she had already been standing on.

I would agree with Bobette and Madhuri. We see this kind of a thing happening not only in reality shows but everywhere where people think they have some authority and popularity.

Thanks to the ways some people kill the talent in a budding artist. It is actually a crime.

This could have been avoided if the producers of the show restrained the judges from making scathing remarks on budding artists. She looked so happy and energetic in her performances. A word of encouragement would have gone a long way to shape her career as a performer. But she what happened.

I am not comfortable with the idea that young kids are subjected to the stress and glare of the spotlight at such an early age. These reality shows should be restricted to only adult performers. It is inhuman to make young children perform under so much stress and public scrutiny.

The parents are as much to blame as the producers of the show and the insensitive judge. Her parents must have known that being so sensitive, she might not be able to take what was being given to her. Where were they when she stopped eating and going out? They let the matter deteriorate further.

It is a complete shocker of a story. The girl should not have been allowed to perform by her parents. I agree with the comment above that they were the best people to know how sensitive she was. They must be held accountable to her present condition now. Such shows must be banned. This is nothing but driven by greed and glamour and the parents are equally guilty as the production houses of such show.

Had this happened in the West, the channel and the producers of the show would have been sued without any delay and they would have had to pay through their noses for the condition of the child. Completely agree that greed and glamor is behind such programs and the parents are equally to be blamed.

Something like this was waiting to happen. We see many cases where students commit suicides, suffer from nervous breakdowns and extreme anxiety during exams. This is no less. The pressure to perform and then deliver is too much. It is disgusting to see kids as young as 4-5 are performing on stage. Too much consumerism is to be blamed.

There must be a public interest litigation urging the courts to impose a ban on reality programmes that feature young children. This is just a kind of profession where mega bucks, mega endorsements, contracts etc are waiting to be earned. Doesn’t (or shouldn’t) such programmes come under the ambit of child labour laws?

Indenting a person on TV is an act which results to such happenings. Over to Raghu the freak from Roadies who slapped a guy on TV and takes great pride in abusing with the mute beeper on ( even without at times). Such extreme acts should be completely banned. In an attempt to showcase ones talent, if one has to loose ones repute, such grace then makes no impression. Entertainment should not cause defamation.
